Crown House was the inspiration for Sophie’s norphonage, but two nearby buildings were important to Roald Dahl. You’ll be surprised when you find out why. Neither was linked to his writing, but both very much linked to passions in his private life.
What was this cafe during Roald Dahl’s time in Great Missenden? One clue is in the name, and the red post box is another. Imagine the sack loads of fan mail arriving for Roald Dahl at the sorting office at the back of this building. Look across the street and located there is another building which was the setting for one of Dahl’s books.
